Tax Deductions for Plumbers: The 2026 Guide
Plumbing is hard work, and you shouldn't be paying more tax than necessary. Whether you are a sole trader or run a Pty Ltd company, there are specific deductions available to plumbers that generic accountants often miss.
1. Tools & Consumables
You can claim the cost of all tools used for your trade.
Under $300: Immediate deduction.
Consumables: Teflon tape, flux, solder, glues, and PVC cleaner are 100% deductible.
2. Protective Gear (PPE)
If you need it to stay safe, it's deductible:
- Steel-capped boots (Non-slip).
- Knee pads (Essential for plumbers).
- Overalls and high-vis vests.
- Sunscreen and sunglasses (if working outdoors).
3. Laundry
You can claim the cost of washing your uniform (logo shirts) or protective clothing. If your claim is under $150, you don't need written evidence, but you must be able to show how you calculated it (e.g., $1 per load).
4. Vehicle Expenses
Your Ute or Van is your office. You can claim fuel, insurance, rego, and servicing. If you travel from home to a job site (and carry bulky tools), that trip is generally deductible.
